Place the router near the center of the area you use, out in the open, and above the floor. Keep it away from thick walls, large metal objects, microwaves, and hidden cabinets.
Give the signal a clear path
Wi-Fi spreads outward from the router. A central, elevated position usually reaches more rooms than a corner, basement, floor, or closed cabinet.
- Move the router toward the center of the home.
- Raise it onto a shelf or table.
- Keep it in the open.
- Move it away from metal, appliances, and thick barriers.
Test the rooms that matter
Run a speed test near the router, then repeat it in the room where Wi-Fi feels slow. Move the router a little and compare again.
