Does Deleting Photos Free Up iCloud Storage?

Deleting photos can free iCloud storage when iCloud Photos is on, but the deletion also reaches your other connected devices. Deleted items stay recoverable in Recently Deleted for 30 days unless you remove them there sooner.
Check which storage is full
iPhone storage and iCloud storage are separate. Open iPhone Storage to check the phone itself, then open iCloud settings to see whether your cloud plan is full.
- For the phone: open Settings > General > iPhone Storage.
- For iCloud: open Settings > your name > iCloud.
- Look at the Photos amount in the storage chart.
Know what deletion changes
With iCloud Photos turned on, your library is synced. Deleting a photo on the iPhone also deletes it from iCloud Photos and from other devices using the same Apple Account.
Finish the cleanup
Photos and videos normally remain in Recently Deleted for 30 days. If you need the storage now, review that album and permanently remove only the items you are sure about.
- Open Photos and tap Collections.
- Scroll to Utilities and open Recently Deleted.
- Unlock the album, review the items, then delete the unwanted ones permanently.
