Quick answer

Open Settings > General > iPhone Storage. Start with Apple’s recommendations, large videos and downloads, apps you no longer use, and obvious photo clutter. Back up anything important before deleting it.

Find what is actually using space

The iPhone Storage screen shows the largest categories and apps. A few long videos or offline downloads can matter more than hundreds of small files.

  1. Review Apple’s storage recommendations.
  2. Check large videos, screen recordings, downloads, and message attachments.
  3. Remove unused apps or offload them if you want to keep their documents.
  4. Review screenshots and failed photos last.

Make the space count

Deleted photos and videos stay in Recently Deleted for a limited time. Clear that album only after you are certain you do not need the items.

Common questions

Why is my storage still full after deleting photos?

The files may still be in Recently Deleted, or the storage screen may need time to recalculate.

Does buying iCloud storage add space to my iPhone?

Not directly. It can help if you use iCloud Photos with Optimize iPhone Storage, but the phone still needs some local space.
