Quick answer

If you use a Roku streaming player, the phone may control the player but not the TV. Enable HDMI-CEC and Roku TV-control settings, update the Roku, and test volume again.

Know what the app controls

A Roku TV has volume built into the Roku system. A separate Roku player may need HDMI-CEC to pass power and volume commands to the television.

  1. Confirm whether you have a Roku TV or player.
  2. Open Settings > System > Control other devices.
  3. Enable available TV power and volume controls.
  4. Check the TV’s HDMI-CEC setting.

If buttons still do nothing

Update Roku software, reconnect the phone on the same Wi-Fi, and remember that some TV and player combinations do not expose every control.

Common questions

Why can I navigate but not change volume?

Navigation controls the Roku player; volume may require Roku TV support or HDMI-CEC to the television.

Can the app turn every TV on?

No. Device power, USB power, and HDMI-CEC support affect what is possible.
